From “helping with the drinks and stuff” at illegal raves in Marburg, Germany, to playing alongside DJ Stingray at RSO.aBERLIN, she’s had an impressive trajectory. oday, DJ MELL G champions electro, although the shift in genre remains an evolving process. Born in Oldenburg, she moved to Marburg to study law and joined a local trap music collective, heading up bookings for their DIY parties. Keen to work in the music industry, specifically artist management, she quit her law degree. As her popularity kept growing in Germany, DJ MELL G played her first official show in OXI, Berlin. Intrigued by electro and artists like DJ Stingray and The Exaltics, she leaned into a sound palette where she felt her true self. Today, she produces and mixes electro with occasional splashes of techno and breakbeat. Her first solo LP “ISSUES” signifies her most personal project yet, affirming her status as a considered producer who is keen to nurture dialogue around mental health in the music industry.

Ellen Allien&nbsp;&nbsp;West Berliner DJ and producer Ellen Allien was highly active as a DJ and producer of minimal acid techno tracks since the early '90s but she made her breakthrough with full-length albums such as 2003's “Berlinette” and 2005's “Thrills.” She was first exposed to electronic music via the acid house scene in London and started DJing in Berlin clubs afterwards. Ellen’s eternally creative mind has led to the production of ten albums, to join her extensive back catalogue of singles, EPs and remix work. In 2023 she celebrated the 20th Anniversary of her seminal album “Stadtkind” and her most recent album “AurAA” delivered emotional techno resonating far beyond the dancefloor. &nbsp;Nene H&nbsp;Nene H was born in Istanbul. Grew up in Izmir. Studied piano and composition in Ankara, Tel Aviv and Stuttgart. She now resides in Berlin, making drone oriental industrial - psychedelic vocal techno. In the ten years since relocating to Berlin, the Turkish-born DJ has become a powerhouse of the city’s evolving underground identity. Her transcendental sets are the result of an all-consuming infatuation with music, built upon the foundations of the Azerbaijani and Turkish sounds she grew up on, and filtered through the prodigal prowess for classical piano she honed at Stuttgart’s State Conservatory. Her music may be unpredictable, but one thing is for certain: With every venture she sets her mind to, Nene H is invigorating the underground with energetic optimism. &nbsp;

Emirhan Çelikbilek, an Istanbul-based producer, DJ, label owner, and filmmaker, launched his solo project 'Emiran' in 2021. Beginning with classical piano studies in his early years, he later immersed himself in Turkish traditional folk music, a significant source of inspiration, seamlessly blending timeless and modern elements in his music. Under the Emiran project, he crafts authentic sounds by merging diverse samples, acoustic compositions, and digital experiments, primarily exploring electronica, downtempo, and melodic techno genres. Drawing influence from world, modern jazz, and minimal music, Emiran showcases his music globally at prestigious festivals and events, such as The Burning Man Project. He continues to oversee his label and music video production company, Akustikhane, as he gets ready to add Sónar Istanbul 2024 to his international accolades.

Dettmann's journey into techno started in the mid-'90s when he began selling records from home due to the absence of electronic music shops in his hometown. His entry into the Berlin club scene was marked by frequenting renowned venues such as Tresor and E-Werk. Shortly thereafter, he secured a resident DJing position at the iconic Berghain. Most descriptions of Olof Dreijer start with the fact that he was one half of pioneering duo The Knife. What they should start with is that he’s also responsible for some of the most forward-thinking dance music released this century. Between 2008 and 2010, under his Oni Ayhun alias he released a series of minimal, mind-bending singles that still sound like nothing else around. This year, he finally stepped out of the shadows to release a colourful, percussive EP under his own name on Hessle Audio, and has begun to DJ again after a long hiatus. Expect a set of bright, rhythmically diverse selections at Sónar 2024, from Portuguese batida and crisp techno to rough baile funk and lush house. &nbsp;

Iranian-born singer, songwriter, director and composer Sevdaliza has always blazed her own path. She blends disparate influences - trip-hop, r&amp;b, punk, club sounds, and even classical music - and has self-released all of her work, starting with her debut album ISON in 2017. She’s also not afraid of making a statement: the cover of her second album, Shabrang, showed her sporting a black eye and found her tackling trauma, violence and emotional turbulence. 2022’s Raving Dahlia EP (named after her daughter) explored the unrealistic expectations that society places on women, and was preceded by a campaign featuring a self-designed ‘fembot’ and a series of self-directed short films. Sevdaliza is coming to Sónar Istanbul 2024 with a physical and emotional live show that will take the audience’s breath away.

Regardless of format, there are always those THC-signatures: punch; euphoria; and streaks of vocal samples intoning the classic dancefloor theme of unity, be it political, sexual, spiritual or some sweaty mixture of it all. &nbsp;
